Each year, between 1.3 and 2 million women in the United States have abortions. Thousands may experience what counseling professionals now call Post-Abortion Stress. Post-Abortion Stress occurs when the acknowledgement and grieving process is not completed. Only lately have counseling professionals begun to understand and treat women who have experienced the loss of a miscarriage. But because abortion is considered a voluntary act, a woman’s grief after an abortion has not typically been understood or supported. Common symptoms include, but are not limited to: |

Some women experience one or more of these symptoms immediately or within months of an abortion. For others, these symptoms may occur two, five, or even ten or more years after an abortion takes place. Many women have suffered from these debilitating symptoms for years without ever understanding their link to a past abortion. Women who experience one or more of the symptoms of Post-Abortion Stress can find the happiness and freedom they need by facing their abortion decision and getting past their often unrecognized grief. |
